martini (gin or vodka)

Makes 1 cocktail
The key to a good martini is a restrained use of vermouth. Some bartenders like to joke that they merely wave the vermouth bottle over the glass to get the perfect balance.

  • A drop or two of extra-dry vermouth
  • 3 ounces vodka or gin, well chilled
  • Lemon twist or olive garnish

Chill your glasses in the freezer. Drop the vermouth into the glass and swirl it to coat the glass. Add the chilled vodka or gin and your choice of lemon twist (rub the rim of the glass with the lemon before dropping it into the drink) or olives on a toothpick.
